A couple of years ago I went around my neighborhood with a camera in the week when the new leaves of spring were making their first appearance. Every phase of spring is different. Finally in full summer I returned to my favorite park tree at the bottom of our street, the plane tree. For the best kind of romantic row-house from the turn of the century, I went as far away as Lexington Avenue.
